Hamilton is a city in New Zealand's Waikato Region, located in the northern part of New Zealand's North Island. It is the fourth largest city in New Zealand and the largest inland city in New Zealand. The Waikato River, the longest river in New Zealand and the second most flowing river, flows through Hamilton. It is surrounded by New Zealand's most fertile land and is known as the "Dairy Capital of the World". It is a distribution center for agricultural and livestock products in the Waikato River Basin, and an industrial center for meat and milk food processing and wood processing. 110 kilometers southeast of Auckland city. The population is 182,000 (2005). There are Waikato University and Waikato Institute of Technology.
